Veterinary Technology Program at St. Petersburg College Partners with Industry Leader in Vet Tech Education to Inspire Youth and Support Future Veteri
St. Petersburg College (SPC) is proud to announce its partnership with the nationally recognized veterinary program Blendvet™ to present their “Exploring a Future in Veterinary Technology” workshop. This one-day event is free for students aged 12-15 to explore careers in Veterinary Technology, and also obtain first-hand knowledge from veterinary professionals in their respective areas of expertise. Our focus is to recruit youth with interest in the fields of veterinary medicine.
The event will be held at SPC’s Veterinary Technology Center on Saturday, June 10th from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. SPC will open their veterinary technology labs, offering interactive displays and activities to teach about careers in all aspects of veterinary medicine. The day will include many interesting activities and speakers, including people representing their companies, demonstrating interesting things about their careers, and helping students visualize what the work in each fields entails.
“Many students become interested in veterinary medicine at a young age but are unsure of where the opportunities are to get experience, find mentorship, and develop their careers. There are so many different pathways within the veterinary profession, and we want to expose middle and high school students to careers that they might not normally consider. They will get to fully understand the opportunities and duties within veterinary medicine, including several hands-on activities with animals, said Trish Gorham, SPC Veterinary Technology Instructor in Charge.”
The featured keynote speaker, Dr. Niccole Bruno, is the CEO & Founder of Blendvet™, which offers training for veterinary hospitals and academic institutions.
Dr. Bruno will be joined by Walter Brown, a veterinary technician at United Veterinary Care, whose vision is to elevate and empower future veterinary professionals.
“Veterinary professionals are quintessential healthcare providers and hardworking individuals with a multitude of skills used to better the lives of animals and those that care for them. As a veterinary technologist, I’m extremely passionate about supporting my fellow veterinary nurses and technicians,” Brown said.
“I hope students and community members will leave the upcoming event with an understanding of the opportunities for all in veterinary medicine as well as a good knowledge of the education and skills of veterinary technicians,” Gorham said.
