The Global Love Project Invites St. Pete to Make Peace Visible for International Day of Peace

Community-wide celebration will highlight the people, organizations, and businesses already building a healthier, kinder, more connected community

St. Petersburg, FL — August 24, 2026 — The Global Love Project (GLP) is inviting the St. Petersburg community to come together this September to celebrate International Day of Peace and shine a light on the everyday actions already making the community a more peaceful place.

Recognized by the United Nations each September 21, International Day of Peace is a global call to strengthen the ideals of peace through everyday action. This year’s

theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” reflects the belief that peace is not simply the absence of conflict, it is something communities must build through connection, compassion, opportunity, sustainability, and service.

For The Global Love Project, the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a roadmap toward that vision. From education and equality to climate action, healthy communities, environmental stewardship, and social connection, the SDGs demonstrate how many of the issues communities work on every day are directly connected to creating a more peaceful world.

“Peace is already happening in St. Pete,” said Justin Lucci, Founder of The Global Love Project. “It’s happening when someone volunteers, teaches, creates art, cares for the environment, supports a local business, builds community, or simply chooses kindness and connection. We want to make that work visible and celebrate the people who are already creating positive change.”

Rather than asking individuals or organizations to take on something new, GLP is encouraging the community to recognize and share what they are already doing to contribute to a healthier, kinder, more sustainable and creative St. Petersburg. The campaign invites participants to consider which of the Sustainable Development Goals resonate with them and how their existing actions contribute to those goals.

Community members can participate in three ways:

Awareness: Share your story, educate others, or start a conversation.

Participation: Volunteer, create, serve, organize, teach, plant, mentor, advocate, or take action.

Celebration: Recognize the people, organizations, and projects already creating positive change in the community.

Throughout the week surrounding September 21, organizations and businesses across St. Petersburg will host events and activities inspired by the spirit of International Day of Peace. Participating community partners include Movement Monday, St. Pete Runfest, The Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center, The EDGE Business District, Sans Market, St. Pete Sunrise Crew, and others.

Additional celebrations and activities are currently being planned, with the full community calendar available on The Global Love Project website. Community members are encouraged to continue checking the website for new opportunities to participate.

The Global Love Project is also inviting individuals, businesses, organizations, and community groups to register their commitment to peace online. The commitment is not a pledge to start something new, but an opportunity to recognize the actions already taking place and help showcase St. Petersburg’s collective impact.

“Everyday actions matter,” said Lucci. “When we recognize them, share them, and inspire one another to keep going, we begin to see just how much positive change is already happening around us. Peace begins with us.”

The Global Love Project encourages everyone in St. Petersburg to act, share, and unite, and to help make the peace already being created in the community visible.

Founded in 2022, The Global Love Project began with a simple act: chalking “LOVE :)” on a sidewalk. What started as a personal expression has grown into a city-wide movement rooted in creativity, connection, and collective action. Through community gatherings, public art, partnerships, and initiatives connected to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, GLP works to inspire individuals and communities to create positive change.
