Tampa Bay Cannons Announce Home Opener This Saturday

St. Petersburg, FL (May 5, 2022)- The Tampa Bay Cannons take on the defending AUDL (American Ultimate Disc League) Champion Carolina Flyers this Saturday, May 7th, in their first home game of the 2022 season. Gates open at 5pm EST and the game starts at 6pm EST at Newton-Williams Field at Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, FL (850 34th Street S., St. Petersburg, FL). In honor of Educators Appreciation Week, all faculty and staff with valid school IDs will receive free admission into the game.

The Tampa Bay Cannons are excited to host the 2021 AUDL Champion Carolina Flyers. These two teams have a rivaled history and will match up four times this season. Carolina has typically won the head-to-head matchups, but there is a renewed energy under first year coach, Michael Taylor. Tampa Bay comes into this game after losing last weekend to the Atlanta Hustle, but looks to overcome the rocky start to the season and put one in the win column.

As this week is Teacher Appreciation Week, this matchup will be special for the Cannons organization to say thank you to all of the teachers and staff in the Tampa Bay area for their hard work. Pinellas County School Board Member, Caprice Edmond, has been invited as the Cannons honorary guest in attendance to throw the opening pull before the game.

The charity partner for this game will be E.R.I.C. (Early Recognition is Critical). E.R.I.C. is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to save lives by recognizing cancer early. E.R.I.C. staff members have gone into hundreds of schools and shared their “Speak Up” message with over 200,000 middle-school-aged children. That message is to live an active, healthy lifestyle, and to speak up and tell someone if something doesn’t feel right. They have accomplished this through the help of our flying disc community, sharing our joy of frisbee along with our age-appropriate cancer symptom content.

ABOUT THE AUDL & PROFESSIONAL ULTIMATE

The American Ultimate Disc League was founded in 2012 to introduce and showcase our talented athletes and precision play to a global audience. Ultimate is a fast flowing and highly athletic low-contact sport that is played by advancing a disc down a field to score in the end zone. Players cannot run with the disc, and play continues until one team scores.

With pinpoint passing and the unique flight of the disc, each game generates many exciting catches and defensive plays that frequently appear on EPSN’s Sports Center Top 10, FOX Sports, Bleacher Report, and other leading sports shows.

The league has 25 teams representing the US and Canada.  Each team competes in a 12-game regular season schedule, with top teams entering a playoff round and division winners advancing to a final four style Championship Weekend. Our audience enjoys our exciting, affordable, family-friendly events, devour our highlights and video features on social media, and watch our full-length games on TV or streamed online. www.theaudl.com
