St. Petersburg College Celebrates 97th Year at SPC Day 2024
The event spotlights almost a century of SPC history and community achievements.
St. Petersburg College (SPC) turns 97 this year and will celebrate its anniversary at SPC Day on Sept. 12 at the Seminole Campus, 9200 113th St. N. The event starts at 10 a.m.
SPC Day marks the first day of classes that were at the College on Sept. 12, 1927. It highlights SPC’s rich history as it strives to impact students' lives by providing opportunities for better jobs and better futures. SPC has awarded more than 201,000 credentials since 1927 and has a $1.2 billion annual impact on the Pinellas County economy.
This year’s event takes place at SPC’s Seminole Campus. Opened in 1998, the campus is housed among 100 acres of beautiful pine woodlands and features a free-standing solar energy structure, SPC's Innovation Lab, and Early Admission and Early College programs for high school students.
The SPC Day program kicks off with a greeting from Seminole Campus Provost Dr. Mark Strickland. Speakers also will include SPC President Dr. Tonjua Williams, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Foundation Jesse Turtle, and former Seminole Provost Jim Oliver. Also, the Mayor of Seminole, Leslie Waters, will give a proclamation.
The celebration will continue with a cake cutting, over 20 community partners offering food and giveaways, photo opportunities with SPC’s mascot Titus the Titan, and more. BayCare Health System and MIDFLORIDA Credit Union are sponsors for the event.
In addition to SPC Day, the College will host community events the week of Sept. 4-12, including SPC Night at the Trop, when the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Minnesota Twins, concerts at the Palladium Theater at St. Petersburg College, and a Focus Friday event at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art at St. Petersburg College.
