Community Foundation Tampa Bay provides over $1 million in grants to local nonprofits
The Community Foundation Tampa Bay has selected 47 projects from 46 local nonprofits to receive a total of $1,041,646 through its competitive grant process.
Nonprofits selected for grants focus on five areas—community vibrancy, economic mobility, empowering women and girls, mental well-being, and positive education. The Community Foundation has focused its funding in these five areas since 2019 to make maximum impact in creating an even stronger community.
This year’s competitive grant process had record levels of interest from nonprofits, and as a result, the Community Foundation awarded the most funding through competitive grants in its over 30-year history. The Community Foundation received more than 300 letters of intent from local nonprofits, and the total requested dollars increased nearly 30% from 2021, the last year that competitive grants funding was awarded.
“It’s clear that our nonprofit partners are still working to recover from the impacts of the COVID pandemic, and our support is more important than ever,” said Jesse Coraggio, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Community Impact at Community Foundation Tampa Bay. “These grants can be a catalyst for positive change in our community.”
The Community Foundation reviewed the full proposals from 109 organizations, and one in seven projects was awarded funding through the competitive grants cycle. Awarded amounts range from $10,000 to $50,000 for each project.
In addition to the more than $1 million awarded in the 2022 competitive grants cycle, the Community Foundation provided philanthropists with the opportunity to directly fund projects submitted through the competitive grants process. Eight nonprofits received a total of $78,000 that was contributed by philanthropists and a match from Gralnick Foundation.
“Our work to connect philanthropists, nonprofit leaders and community advocates ensures that nonprofits have the funding and capacity to continue to address our region’s most pressing needs,” said Marlene Spalten, President and CEO of the Community Foundation Tampa Bay.
