Bayfront Health St. Peterburg partners with Habitat for Humanity to make homeownership dreams come true

St. Petersburg, FL – On Wednesday, August 24, Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties will celebrate with the Allen family in St. Petersburg. The Allen family’s home was sponsored by and built in partnership with Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Habitat homeownership partner families must demonstrate a need for adequate shelter, the ability to pay back a zero-interest loan and willingness to partner with Habitat to invest 350 to 450 “sweat equity” hours. Soon-to-be homeowners complete 28 homeowner education classes, from budgeting to how to be a good neighbor, to prepare for their new chapter as homeowners.

First time home sponsor, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, has contributed $50,000 and over 280 volunteer hours to help build the Allen’s home.

“We are proud to partner with an organization like Habitat for Humanity.” said John Moore, President of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. “For weeks, our team members were excited to roll up their sleeves to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for this well deserving family. Habitat shares the same goal as our hospital in serving the needs of the community. It has been our pleasure to contribute to such a worthy cause.”

Future homeowner, Monica Allen, will purchase her home with a zero-percent interest loan through Habitat, keeping her mortgage affordable. Monica has worked as a reconsideration analyst in the insurance industry for over 13 years. Her and her daughter, Tahnya, have moved several times in the past 11 years, constantly trying to find a safe and clean place for the family. After constant hardships, Monica was overjoyed when she learned about her acceptance into the Habitat Homeownership program.  “My home will be my forever home that I am able to build a life for me and my daughter.”
