Aeromexico and TPA announce daily nonstop service to Mexico City
This is the first time in nearly 30 years an airline has offered service from Tampa International Airport to Mexico’s capital city. The route begins on July 1.
Tampa International Airport joined new partner airline Aeromexico on Monday to celebrate the announcement of daily nonstop service to Mexico City beginning this summer.
The route is a major win for TPA, which has listed the Mexican capital as one of its top-targeted international destinations for years. The connection will benefit both business and leisure travelers, as well as the many Tampa Bay area families with Mexico ties. The route is expected to generate nearly $70 million in economic impact for the Tampa Bay region.
Tampa Bay was the airline’s largest unserved market in the United States. It now becomes Aeromexico’s 23rd U.S. market and the third in Florida, behind Orlando and Miami.
The new route to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) will be served by Embraer E190 aircraft with 99 seats, including 11 in Aeromexico’s premium cabin, Clase Premier. As a founding member of the SkyTeam Alliance alongside of Delta Air Lines, Aeromexico’s daily service to Mexico’s capital will offer seamless connections to and from the airline’s extensive network across Mexico and Latin America.
“It’s a big day when we get to announce both a new airline and a new route that connects Tampa Bay with the largest metropolitan area in North America,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said. “We’re proud to welcome Aeromexico to TPA with this nonstop service to Mexico City and we are so grateful to our Tampa Bay community partners who have stepped up to help ensure the success of this flight.”
The day was equally exciting for Aeromexico, which joined TPA, tourism and economic development leaders on Monday to share the news and details of the partnership.
“This new service to the Tampa Bay area demonstrates our commitment to offer the best connectivity between Mexico and the United States, hand in hand with our partner Delta Air Lines,” said Jose Zapata, Vice President of Sales for US, Canada and Latin America. “As a result, our customers will have more options for leisure and business travel, and Tampa Bay has a lot to offer.”
Thanks to Aeromexico’s alliance with Delta, tickets are now available through both airlines’ digital channels, offering introductory fares. The schedule beginning July 1:
Route | Departure | Arrival |
MEX - TPA | 10:00 a.m. | 3:20 p.m. |
TPA - MEX | 4:35 p.m. | 6:14 p.m. |
